Spontaneously, he offers 100,000 marks for a night with Marlene. Outraged, the author refuses, but shortly afterwards meets Jack professionally to write a "portrait of a pimp." After a boozy stroll through the neighborhood together, which Marlene can only remember in fragments the next day, Jack transfers 100,000 marks to her and thanks her for the "wonderful night."
